Global studies inspect changes in societies around the globe on the macro and micro level. Micro changes could be changes in local populations of a town or city, and macro changer could pertain to international interactions that cause complete overhauls of political standpoints for countries around the world.


Globalization is a large part of what global studies entails. Globalization refers to the increased interaction of people through means of advancements in technologies. This could break further down into transportation, communicative efforts, infrastructure improvements, and many others. Technological advancements such as the birth of the internet have rapidly progressed globalization. The internet has been able to connect people from another side of the earth who otherwise would not be able to, ultimately surpassing geographical boundaries for people to connect. Transportation advancements have made it easier than ever for people to become connected and understand cultures better. Traveling by commercial flights is more affordable now than ever before in the past making globalization a fast-moving phenomenon.

Global studies offer opportunities in various job sectors. Having an overall understanding of the subject can lead students into foreign affairs, environmental research, International relations, and historical analysis just to name a few. A global studies profession should not be overlooked for people who are interested in getting their feet wet in multiple areas of interest.
